It is the oldest and only original temperance bar left in Britain.  It opened in 1890 and
has been restored to its original glory, still serving herbal tonics to its longstanding
customers.

Fitspatrick’s Temperance Bar can get cold in the evenings so please wrap up warm and
wear sensible footwear.  The building itself has a small, steep staircase with no disability
access to the upper levels.

The Fitzpatrick family were prominent
herbalists who owned and managed a
chain of temperance bars all over the
Lancashire area.

Malachi Fitzpatrick, who was the last in
the family line, managed the Rawtenstall
temperance bar for well over 50 years.
